Finding the right school for your child is top of the list when deciding to move or relocate.

Maidstone offers a wide choice of schools and colleges, giving families a variety of options to suit their child’s educational needs, interests and personality.

Use the gov.uk site to compare performance and league tables at your favourite schools, and try to arrange visits to meet students and teachers.

Primary, Secondary & Grammar Schools

Maidstone is home to 49 primary schools, and 12 secondary schools, four of which are grammars – Invicta Grammar School, Maidstone Grammar School, Maidstone Grammar School for Girls and Oakwood Park Grammar School.

Private Schools

Established in 1576 Sutton Valence School is a co-educational day and boarding school for ages two in their Little Lambs Nursery, up to 18, spread across two rural sites in the heart of the countryside.

The school aims for students to leave as ‘tenacious, articulate, compassionate and open-minded individuals, prepared for the next stage of their learning journey.’

Mid Kent College

This pioneering college aims to be Kent’s hub for sustainable construction. £5.6m of government funding helped to open the ‘Net Zero Skills Factory’ in 2023, providing courses in green construction and technologies, plus a ‘Retrofit Centre’ offering training for retro-fitting properties with renewable energy solutions.

Higher education

A multi-million pound upgrade transformed the former University for the Creative Arts at the campus into the University Centre Maidstone, offering professional courses designed to equip students for university. The state of the art facilities include advanced construction and engineering workshops, art studios, and creative media suite with a green room and photography studio.

More Universities are not far away…

Universities at Medway is a unique partnership which has brought together the University of Greenwich, the University of Kent, and Canterbury Christ Church University on a shared campus at Chatham Maritime; just a few miles north of Maidstone, with excellent transport links to and from Maidstone Town Centre.
