Monthly Maidstone Spotlight – Incredible Thinks Ltd.
As we move into the Spring, we continue our spotlight Q&A’s with businesses across Maidstone. We spoke with Mel Adams, founder of Incredible Thinks Ltd. Mel recently became another Maidstone winner of the Let’s Do Business Group HerBiz Programme, earning £500 towards her start-up costs.
Mel, we first met you at the Business Terrace back in November last year and you have been on quite a journey since then. You have two businesses Incredible Thinks Ltd and We Click CIC – how do you find the time?
Time? What time? laughs Well, I’ve certainly had my share of hectic schedules in the past, from fostering to teaching to solo parenting. But each experience taught me the importance of building capacity and adopting a strategic approach. Technology has been a game-changer, helping me streamline tasks and collaborate effectively with my teams. And let’s not forget the power of teamwork; it’s been an absolute must in keeping everything ticking!
What support have you found along the way?
I’ve been very lucky to benefit from the business support offered by Maidstone Borough Council. Ah, Alex, the familiar face at the door of The Business Terrace! Meeting you always signifies a journey into the world of entrepreneurship. Chris Lyle (Maidstone based business advisor), a true gem, entered my life after the excellent GEO brand course, where I realised I needed more than just their branding expertise. Enter HerBiz, and Chris promptly directed me to Lisa Youngs’ boot camp. The Maidstone Business Terrace has been a revelation; it’s not just about networking but connecting with like-minded individuals who gently nudge you towards growth-so much knowledge and expertise around every corner.
Congratulations on being the winner of last month’s HerBiz, the female entrepreneur programme – What does this mean for you?
Winning HerBiz was like receiving the ultimate business guide with practical advice tailored to my needs. It provided clarity and vision, transforming scattered ideas into two dynamic, focused entities. And the sisterhood formed with fellow female entrepreneurs, each at various stages of their journey, has been invaluable. Plus, let’s not forget the £500 prize, which I’ve vowed to invest wisely, prioritising business growth over that tempting handbag!
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
The transition from excelling within established organisations to forging my own path has been my biggest challenge. Suddenly, I have the freedom to enact the changes I’ve always envisioned. But with great power comes great responsibility, as they say. Mastering my financials has been paramount; that prize-winning business plan isn’t just a document; it’s a roadmap that values my time. And hey, this interview? Cost you £6.71 – worth every penny, I’d say!
As a successful female entrepreneur, have you a couple of tips you could share for those just starting their journeys?
For those embarking on their entrepreneurial journey, my advice would be to first, know your worth. Understand your unique value proposition and don’t be afraid to showcase it boldly. Second, surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, peers, and collaborators; their guidance will be invaluable. And remember, success is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay resilient, stay focused, and above all, stay true to your vision.- I can’t actually believe I just wrote that as I do have a long way to go but sitting with Lisa and Martin on the Biznet show just brought it home.” I think this idea can work” has through MBT and associations become a reality.
